Czech Environmental Information Agency has created a new website for the presentation of sustainable development indicators. Sustainable development seeks to eliminate or mitigate the negative effects of the current way of development of human society. Sustainable development thus takes into account not only economic growth, but also social values and natural wealth. Therefore, in 2015, the UN adopted the Action Plan for the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030, which was transposed into the Czech environment as the CR 2030. To monitor the goals, an indicator framework has been developed and presented on the new website https://www.sdg-data.cz/.
The website is intended for those interested in sustainable development from the public as well as experts and government officials. To help navigate through the hundreds of entries, the website offers access to sustainable development indicators both hierarchically, where indicators are ordered from goals, sub-goals and key areas to individual indicators, and through categories, attributes and labels. Visualizations are created for the available indicators, along with supporting downloadable data and metadata. The visualizations are interactive, allowing you to filter the data and create views by attribute. The website is bilingual in Czech and English.
Sustainable development has become increasingly important in Europe and worldwide in recent years. In the environmental field, we are facing the so-called triple planetary crisis, which includes climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. This crisis is interlinked with current demographic changes, migration and widening social inequalities. Accelerating technological development and the increasing interconnectedness of the contemporary world force us to see the world in context and to accept the responsibility of each state towards the global community. During the summer months, we will present selected indicators representing the SDGs on our Facebook profile. Follow our Facebook page to find out where we stand on the SDGs.
The website was created within the framework of the project Mechanisms for Promoting the Principles of Sustainable Development in Public Administration (PUDR), in which CENIA participates in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Regional Development and the Czech Statistical Office. The project has been running since 2019 and will be completed this year. As part of the project, CENIA has ensured the storage of datasets and metadata, visualization of sustainable development indicators, data classification and their publication on the newly created website.
